This kind of technology will do more to both bring the world together AND preserve local cultures than all the missionaries and wars ever combined. Just wait and see. Remember our first computer Marti? You asked "Why can't I just think to it?" Your sister said , "That would not be good." We live in exciting times.

Mmm, I don't know, Dad - missionaries and wars have left a pretty significant impact... I'm holding out for the latter to do their part with the issues of clean water, fighting childhood disease, relief and development...

But all the same, I am hopeful that things like One Laptop Per Child will do a lot of good. And maybe especially as they 'make the world smaller.' Get people like us to stop always evaluating the world in terms of what's good for Americans (which is of little value in my opinion).

Thanks for sharing that story about our first computer, Dad - of course I have a lot of memories about that time, but I didn't remember that conversation! Funny... yup, it's true, these are exciting times!
